Idle Tom excels himself at Eton

Friday, May 30th, 2008

Off to Eton on Wednesday to flog The Well-Tempered Clavier. It was absolutely pouring.

Idle Tom the Publisher running around like a headless monkey, squawking that his books were going to get wet.

Which they did.

Very.

"Tom," I said. "Thanks for getting all these books down here. Very much appreciated."

"Not a problem," he said, in his natty […]

Eton here we come!

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Off to Eton today - oh yes, it’s going to be GRRREAT!

At least Idle Tom the publisher says it’s going to be great.

It’s the school parents’ day, the Fourth of June. George III’s birthday, dontcha know? Still celebrating it more than two centuries on.

Tons of bigwigs there, driving their Rollers and their Bentleys.

And in amongst […]

Idle Tom signs the deal

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

So Idle Tom the Publisher and I met up to shake hands and formally sign the deal. The deal, that is, for Book Number 2 - the ultra top-secret Project X.

"I don’t think I’ve ever done this before," said Idle Tom as he scrawled his moniker.

"Done what?" I said.

"Given an author an advance before."

"Well … […]

What it’s like being Legend’s Author of the Week

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Missed out on a day blogging. I’ve been working. Working! Terribly hard. At my journalism. Which, I fear, is always destined to pay me far more than will ever come from Idle Tom the Publisher.

However … that’s not to say that there aren’t quite a few perks to be had from being a Legend Press […]

What it take to be "An Author of the Week".

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

The story so far: Idle Tom the Publisher has commissioned my next book, Project X, a wonderfully uplifting thriller with a sting in the tale. Or some such nonsense. Can’t really remember how I pitched it - ‘cos I’m not even a quarter way into the thing yet.

Idle Tom, however, has been … iffy about […]

Book 2: The publisher’s decision

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I have three contact numbers for Idle Tom the Publisher - and it doesn’t matter what time I call, whether it’s day or night. He NEVER answers the phone.

The usual drill is that I leave a message.

Hear nothing for the next two or three days.

And finally he gives me a call. Know what he always […]

An even tougher signing session than Hackney

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Doing a book session in the Jewish Orthodox capital of Britain, Hackney, on a Saturday afternoon … now that was tough. Pretty damn tough.

Not a single one of ‘em was even allowing themselves to set foot in the library.

As it happens, I think I can now top that.

Glasgow Waterstone’s on a Thursday afternoon. 6pm.

Everyone’s just […]

Stuck in a Book review …

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

A few weeks back I cast some bread on the waters - sent out a few more books to those that might like to review them.
One of them, Simon Thomas, has given The Well-Tempered Clavier a handsome - handsome! - review. Want to see Simon’s review? Then here you go: www.stuck-in-a-book.blogspot.com
One thing Simon did mention […]
