Great idea from the Brand God

Got a lot of great friends out there with a lot of great ideas on how to make The Well-Tempered Clavier bigger. Better. A blockbuster, even.

They’re perpetually coming up with sensational ways of turning the Clavier project into a “Go”, and I thought I’d share this little gem from Gerv Cottam, who’s Britain’s Brand king. Knows everything there is to know about Branding - and, as it happens, he’s also pretty hot when it comes to flogging books.

Did I say hot? I meant SMOKING!

“I’ve got a good idea for upping the sales of that Cavalier thingy,” he said to me last night.

“Cavalier thingy? Is that what you call it?”

“Isn’t that what it’s called? Clavier? Cavalier? What’s the difference?”

“I dare say. The Laughing Clavier - a picture of a grinning piano.”

“Anyway - this Cavalier thing. I’ve got a really good idea that might just, just, help sell a few more copies.”

“Cool,” I said. That’s me - always receptive to new ideas, no matter how weird, how whacky. Just take our extraordinary stunt “Book L-u-urvers”. Who would have guessed that that would have taken off in such spectacular style?”

“You ready for it?”

“Hit me.”

“It’s simple. Just win the Booker Prize.”

“Is that it?”

“Yeah - win the Booker Prize and sales will go through the roof.”

“Ummm. Win the Booker Prize? I hadn’t thought of that.”

“Yeah! It’s good isn’t it? Heyy! Heyy - why are you looking at me like that?”
