Hackney library here we come …
Idle Tom the Publisher has been beavering - beavering - away on my behalf. No stone has been left unturned in Idle Tom’s quest to shift a few more copies of The Well-Tempered Clavier.
Let me see now … well he’s lined up a gig for me at Hackney library on Saturday.
And some sort of signing event in Stockton.
And, wait for it, one-off appearance at the Literary Fest in Waltham Forest. As I said, it’s all go …
"This Hackney event on Saturday," I said. "What exactly is happening?"
"Hackney?" said Idle Tom. "Oh that one is going to be big! That’s going to be great! I’ve got high hopes for Hackney! High hopes!"
"Well that’s just dandy," I said. "So I’ll be getting up at 5 in the morning to get the 6.15 train down. Should be in to Stamford Hill library round about noon. What have you teed up for me?"
"I say this in all modesty," said Idle Tom. "But I think this is probably the biggest literary event in Legend History. Needed quite a few strings pulled, I can tell you, but I think you’re going to like it -"
"So what’s happening?"
"Not just one library, but two!"
"Is that it?"
"Nope! This one just gets better and better! We’ve got stalls too! Two stalls at each library! One for you and one for me! It’s going to be a double whammy!"
"Okay."
"And you’re going to be giving a talk too! At 3 in the afternoon!"
"Yes?"
"And I’ll be there selling copies of the book! And you can sign them! Hackney’s not going to have seen anything like it! At least I don’t think they’ll have seen anything like it!"
"Well - Hackney’s quite a cosmopolitan place these days, Tom, so they might well have seen quite a few things like it. How many copies do you think we might sell?"
"Five or six? Maybe even seven! We’ll be grossing over 50 quid! In five hours! It’s going to be awesome!"
