Not overly ugly

Ann Morgan: What a star.

Did an interview with me for the Roundtable Review - and here it is:

Ann’s review

Far, far more generous to me than I have ever been to any of my interviewees …

Not that I’ve invented (many) quotes.

But still, if you do an hour-long interview, you’ve got more than enough quotes there to make the interviewee look like a total dork. You can slant the story any way you like. Much as you can do with a Blog, in fact. Much as I am now being accused of slanting my blogs against the publisher, Tom The Idle Chav.

For it would it seem that quite a number of people are now not only feeling sorry for Idle Tom but they’re actually rooting for him too; think that he’s been getting a bit of a tough press from me; and have even started defending his questionable taste in book covers.

Well … it’s a view.

Not my view though. I think he deserves everything he gets.

Now even my wife Margot is at it. “I think he’s jolly nice,” she said.

“He’s perfectly amenable if that’s what you mean,” I replied.

“I think you’re a good team.”

“A team? You think we’re a team? There’s no sort of team-play in it! He’s a tyrant! He just does what he wants while I’m shoved out on the sidelines!”

“As I said, I think you’re a good team.”

“Well OK then … but if that’s the case, I wish Idle Tom might display a bit more team-spirit. He imagines that he’s George Best, but before he’s even beaten his first man he’s tripped over his laces -”

“He’s not overly ugly either -”

“A perfect summary of his looks. Not overly ugly! And he’s not overly intelligent either!”

Dexter Young Dexter - holding forth.
